My well maintained cooling sytem decided to show me the middle finger after ten years service
Saw this wet patch in the garage and after investigating noticed that it sprung a leak under pressure between the aluminium body and plastic top tank.
Nissan wants R14k for a new one! Blêrrie thing must be gold plated
Surely there must be better/cheaper options - any sugestions?
Sorry to hear this David, but my solid and only recommendation would be to go to Silvertons to build up a decent size radiator to fit. I know the diesels are different to the 4.8s but I have a really neat 3 core radiator ( apparetly..) that has no plastic bits and works like a charm keeping the motor cool. I'm sure it will be a whole load cheaper than a Nissan OE part. Maybe they can use the cores of your existing and just fit top and bottom tanks in metal. Just be aware of the earthing issue that has been mentioned here a few times, but that's a simple fix.

Ja Swaer... this is the idea as the auto trannie cooler is also in there .. it might be the opportunity to split the lot.
Using Tinus's contact I got a brand new radiator delivered to my front door for R3200. Only difference I can see between the original and the new one is the Nissan badge which means you pay R10 000 for the badge!

Hardest work was removing the bashplate - the rest is just pop out old and pop in new...and remembering where the bleed screw is when refilling with antifreeze
If anybody needs a radiator for a 4.8 I can recommend Tombo Automotive - billyc@tombo.co.za
