Patrol 3.0 Diesel
What is the general feeling on the 3.0 diesel motor in the Patrol? What should one look out for when shopping around? I see some on Autotrader for around R160k with 250k kms on.
It is time to swing the Pathy and I do not have a deep enough pocket for petrol as I will use it as a daily commuter and family car as well.

The 30l is a good engine as long as it hasnt bomb yet ....post 2005 seems the way to go ....let graham check it out for you ....speak to joshj and cooper they have fairly new ones and are getting 8km per liter in town ....the one to be weary of is the 2001 2004 model .....just make sure its in good nick ...fit a madman and drive it

What year model is that?
Also, I would very much favour a model that already had an EGT installed, as this means the previous owner has had some guidance in how to drive the vehicle.
Without that, the damage done to date, if any, would have been cumulative.
If well looked after the engine can last you 500,000. Not the mileage you will get out of a good and well looked after petrol engine, but still a long way.

Re: Patrol 3.0 Diesel
Hi Leon
Having been a victim of the handgrenade myself you might expect me to be the bitter villain in this story and tell you never ever to buy a car with a ZD30 engine. But I am not. In fact, this may surprise some, but I would actually consider a late model ZD30 with an EGT as my second Trol to the one I already have.
However I would most defintely stay far away from a 2002 model that have not had the EGT installed and where the previous owner cannot tell you his experience of it on that car.
