Hi Guys,
I have been reading up on all diesel posts and also other media. But my qeustions are not completely awnsered.
Can any of you fundi's please tel me what nissan has changed on the ZD30 since they first put in the Trolls. I'm asking in terms of feul supply. Air supply. Ecu snd so on.
What is clear is that they changed the first motor in 2003/4. Then when i spoke to the pro2 race chip guys they referred to a dci motor since 2007. So im now confused. I have 2013 model. So i would like know what tipe of diesel pump i have and how does it work. What turbo and any other electronic change made on the engin management.
Any help would becapreciated.

Re: ZD30 engine changes over the years
Hi Josh -- I am sure the experts will give you better technical info.
ONE big change was the ECU [computer] that was EUROPE settings on the first models .. till 2002 [thus the over fuelling in Africa higher altitude and MUSCH warmer situations /.. and the3 engines tended to "hand granade"
Since 2003 the ECU was set for our conditions in Africa, the tops of the cylinders were changed [design & surface] and the injectors were matched with the ECU .. same power output but better response.
2007 changes?
oompi weet nie ..
Of the rest I am not sure -- maybe Big Boss Glyn can enlighten us from the Factory's sidie ???

Re: ZD30 engine changes over the years
Thanx for the reply Oompie
Has the VNT turbo been standard since the first engines? Another interesting read was in the latest Leisure wheels magizine about euro rating of vehicles.
I tried to paste it, but its wasnt successful. Its a response from a toyota representative. She states that only from euro spec4 engines are mapped to use 50ppm. These are the latest vehicles like the new rav4 and v8 cruiser. The hilux and fortuner was mapped for 500ppm. So i'm wondering what euro spec the Trols 3.0D motor is. My geuss would be euro spec3. I find that my troll is lighter on 500ppm. Almost 1km/l. I will confirm this after my next fill-up. The Troll also runs smoother for me and the engine seems quiter with the 500ppm. This is the oposite of what my experience was with other diesels like the pajero2.8. The colt 2.8. Golf4 1.9tdi and prado 150. They all did better on the 50ppm.
This response has the potential to open up a can of worms. Why do the stealers reqeust the lowest ppm diesel if cars are not mapped for it. I am sure everyone would like to have their engines running at optimum for this in my opinion would be the best for the engine.

Re: ZD30 engine changes over the years
Hi Josh
Yippp - the VNT Turbo was standard on the ZD 30 motor since they camke out BUT only on PATROL .. NOT on the3 Hard Body 30. Di 16 valve.
If you want to drive on 500 ppm .. the Troll will do so but it wil smudge the injectors .. thus -- add that Two Stroke Oil regularly [200 ml on tankful] specially if you drive long distances.
Also quieter on the 50 ppm
I am a firm believer in CALTEX Dulo 400 oil on the Jap diesels .. it just keeps the engine and sump much much cleaner.
To ensure our engine last longest .. have an EGT meter installed [MADMAN makes the better one .. I think] and keep the exhaust temps below 700 as far as possible.
