Guys, driving up from the coast this January with a lot of drag on the roof, I noticed two things: the hotter the engine gets (though the temperature gauge stays constant), the less power one has (which is pretty normal) and when I got home after a straight 1000km the bonnet and front fenders were really pretty hot, as was of course the air intake system. The heat soak was quite something and as usual I opened the bonnet when stopping to permit as much as possible to escape. Is there anything that can be sensibly done to reduce the heat? I suppose I could wrap some of the intake in that reflective asbestos fabric I have which may help keep the intake air a bit cooler but it'd be a bit tricky to wrap the air filter box, which being metal absorbs a lot of heat. A snorkel I suppose is an option but I'm not really wanting to go there either yet.
Incidentally, in the old Land Rover I had a habit if letting the bonnet ride on the safety catch when travelling at low speed in hot conditions so as to let air flow over the engine and help the cooling by letting heat escape. Any sense in doing the same with the Patrol?

Clem just put a snorkel....the thing is people think that snokels are just for water .....but
1 is shorts out the heat problem when working hard in soft sand and in the bush
2 its gives you cleaner air when driving convoy on dirt roads
3 It really gives you better performance when hot outside and fuel consumption seems to be better by a little bit
Your down pipes are already covered with fiber so by covering it again is going to give you hassles
