4.5 parts in the cape

Hi guys

I'm new to the forum and to Patrolling. I recently got a 2002 4.5 which is in pretty good condition, but does need some TLC. I must say that I've only had it a couple of weeks and to be honest I regret not getting one a lot sooner! I like to do as much as possible myself and having had two landies in the past I'm quite used to fiddling around . I am not sure if Nissan dealers are the same as the rest but if they are then I'd like to avoid them as far as possible! So my question is if anyone can tell me if there is a reliable parts dealer in the Cape Town area where I can get Patrol parts? The first thing I need to replace is the front crank seal and at the same time would like to do the timing chain (it's getting a bit noisy). The clutch is still okay for now, but it will need some attention within the next 10 000k's or so.

Any advice would be much appreciated!

Hello & welcome to the forum

Nissan dealers & parts availability is as bad as the rest so I agree - stay away if you can but sometimes you will have to bite the bullet as the OE part is the only one that works.

You can try Masterparts in Bellville or Good Hope Spares in Brackenfell

For most engine spares, speak to Dean at Masterparts in Belleville.

For technical assistance, speak to Tour de Frans (Frans Fourie) who is an independant macchie and tuner in your area.

Be advised that the clutches on these cars tend to go very suddenly, and that there are a lot of people who believe that one should only use OEM clutches on these vehicles (I do not speak from experience here though), although some have had good results with Nissan Cabstar clutches.

Also, Herrie op Safari (Kobus Pienaar) can probably help you with a factory manuel on CD?

Welcome to the Patrol world. Glad you came to your senses and bought the most reliable 4x4 on the market.

If you do not have the cap to download the manual, there are forum member that have it available on a CD that you can collect in from Cape Town.

The clutch is something you will have to get from Nissan. It is the best and the only one that will last. It is quite expensive, but you will save on the installation if you do it yourself.

I just had my first experience trying to get non-dealer parts. Wat 'n nagmerrie!

From a whole list of things I needed the only things I could get that wasn't from the dealer was the front crankseal and spark plugs! Dis seker maar beter as niks! Also had to hear the same story that I saw on some posts a lot of you guys have had: You can't buy panhard bushes seperately - you have to buy the whole thing! According to my dealer you also can't buy wheel bearings - you have to replace the whole hub! Seriously, where do they find these guys! Also took me about 15 minutes to describe to the guy what the panhard is!

The bearings and seals on the front axle of the Y61 are identical to those on the Y60, which are available seperately.

I have not needed to source panhard rod bushes yet, but I am quite sure these can be made up by a specialist. Here in PTA you could use Rubamat, perhaps they know of a similar supplier in the cape?

You can buy the panhard bushes seperately - here's the part numbers:

Lower Bush (all models) 55135 01J01
Upper Bush (std type) 55135 01J10
Upper Bush (Balljoint Type) 40110 VC000

I replaced my lower bush about 2 months ago - I used lots of Sunlight dish washing soap as lubricant and my drill press
