If you are only going to use it for a year or two I would go for the D4 2HundredAndPlenty Kilowatt V8 Disco because I think they are good looking with all the bells and whistles and a lovely ride with the air suspension but (...and its a BIG but ... ) if you plan to keep it longer than its service plan then there is no way I would go that way! There are way too many elektronic gimmics and I have seen too many come back from holiday on a flatbed... Where are you going to get replacement tyres for those 18 to 20 inch rims in Nam, Moz or Botswana? :surprised: I thought the 17's of the 4.8 GRX is already pushing it!
Long term I would go for the 4.8 Patrol which is totally under stressed (...where have you heard about a modern multi valve running a 9:1 compression ratio?...) 15 years is a minimum lifespan and you can hammer it everyday - it just responds with the minimum of electronics and over engineered transmission which won't let you down when the going gets tough as long as you do the basic maintenance.
You might be putting in a bit more fuel in the Trol than in the Disco but what the heck - you have already saved at least R80k!
I think decide what is important to you - piece of mind or bling - and go for it! :oldtimer:

 Yes David, I cannot see anyone buy a D3/D4 older than 2 years over a 4.8 Patrol.

Well Dieselfan, what did you expect , you have the answer. PATROL all the way!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

May I just add,
Dont worry about the vehicle , never mind it's a 4x4 that have won more awards world wide than any other vehicle ever produced.
the only vehicle that can tow 3.5 ton legally
the 4.4 V8 engine has obviously on this forum got NO track record, although decades old
the ZF gearbox ?
the strongest chassis design in any 4x4
only vehicle with 2 x chassis's , why monogogue body as well.
biggest in its class, more space than others
in Aus. becoming very popular for the outback, check the forums and magazines
2.7 TDV6's have mileage of over 550 000km on forums, untouched.
good consumption in all engines and all engines drives on ANY grade of fuel
grill removes within seconds to have excess to clean radiator
2 nd battery box supplied
TERRAIN RESPONSE WITH CONVERTER LOCK UP AND LOCKING DIFFS
tyre manufactures have mud,and rough terrain tyres in 17/18/19 inch currently
5 star NCAP rating
Suspension ? maybe it's too smooth, too soft, too hard, thats why it doesnt drifts on corrugations, or get's airborned through a driffie.Require no upgrade doesnt matter how many accessories gets added to this 2.7 ton beast
:mytwocents:

Do I like PATROLS?
Off course yes, especially the GQ

Do I like my D3 ?
Ek hou my bek, netnou word ek geskors

Jules , ek is so n bietjie bang, is daar n flatbed op standby.

:naughty:

Maar dankie "at least" is daar 2 x back ups. :salute:
