Valve Clearances
Hi Guys, does anyone know if the 1998 Patrol 4.5 GL (Y61) series have hydraulic lifters?
If not,and the valve clearances can be adjusted, what is the settings and procedure?
Thank you.

Re: Valve Clearances
I can't find literature on weather or not they are Hydraulic, I'm sure Gerrit would be able to answer. Anyway, this is verbatim from Mx Ellery.
These adjustments should only be made when the engine is warm.
1: Remove engine rocker cover
2: Set the No1 piston to TDC (top dead centre i imagine) on its compression stroke and adjust the clearances on the No1,2,3,6,7 and 10 valves.
3: Set the No6 piston to TDC on its compression stroke and adjust the clearances on the No4,5,8,9,11 and 12 valves.
Specified Clearances:
Intake valves - 1,3,5,7,9,11 = 0.35mm
Exhaust Valves - 2,4,6,8,10,12 - 0.35mm
If the valves are not as indicated, adjust to suite (using feeler gauge, screw driver and ring spanner)
Replace rocker cover and tighten bolts to 1-3nm

Re: Valve Clearances
If you have to adjust clearances from time time, chances are the lifters are not hydraulic.

Re: Valve Clearances
Someone who is, like, smart and stuff should explain why Mr. Nissan built the TD42 with solid lifters and not hydraulic?
Most designers use solid lifters to prevent lifter float in high-revving engines. The TD42 is many things, but rev-happy it ain't, even by the standards of diesel engines.

Re: Valve Clearances
True,the 4.2 are also a amazing engine.The ausies rev it 6000rpm
For what its worth. And I know the manufacture's give a spec for a reason. But here goes.A small valve clearance give power at high rpm,and a big but not noisy clearance make more horse at the bottom rpm.
