NEW BFG'S FOR MY 07 GRX 4.8

Post by Patrol2 »

Hi There

I had a bit of misfortune with my current Cooper Discoverer ST's in 275/70-17's in that one of the front tyres received a nasty cut in the thread close to the sidewall.

They barely did 34000 Km's!

As I could not get any Coopers in this size in the Country I opted for a new set of BFG's in 305/65-17 "All Terrain".

I must admit the ride is much quieter and the Speedo seems to be quite accurate!

My only concern is if I did the right thing by opting for this size instead of 265/70-17's........they might "look" a bit skinny????

I cant feel any significant power drop although the usual thirst for Unleaded always remain

What do you guys think???

Regards

I think you made the right choice, 265's in my opinion look to small on the Patrol.

The 305 sidewall height is 19.825 cm while the 275 is 19.25 cm, but you have 3 cm extra width on your tyre so this should balance the 'looks' out.Your ride height is only increased by 0.575 cm and your diametre is increased by 1.15 cm.

If my calculations are correct you increased your diametre by 1.15 cm
You increased your ride height by .575 cm
You increased your tread width by 3 cm

I think your choice of tyre should give the Patrol a more aggresive look with the wider tread.

Just check how much your odometer is out. You might think that the Patrol is heavier on fuel but the chance is good that the distance is now less than the true distance.

When I put the 285's on my Patrol I noticed that the distance in accordance with the GPS shows 4,4% less.

The speedo is only 2,5 km/h out.
