Gerrit

Hey guys,

Just stumbled on this post and I have an imported TD42-T as well.
Turbo Diesel 4.2 without IC (fitted custom IC afterwards) JPN spec's

The issue of getting parts for these vehicles is the insane policy of Nissan to insist on VIN and once you produce such number they direct you to ... Japan, yes, had this when my gearbox 5th gear went bang.
Anyway, my way around is the Patrol forum down under http://www.patrol4x4.com/forum/ whereas I found all my parts needed for gearbox or suspension within hours.
The rest is shipping and it works.

One useful info: "Nizzbits" is the guru for spares on this forum and he has access to all the part numbers and prices, so give it a try

Hope it helps for all those with conversions and non standard rigs.
Cheers for now

Hi all,

Thank you for all your postings and your help / advice - so far no luck  None of the oil seal places can make up one - and if I do find an ordinary oilseal with the right id then the od is wrong - or vice versa.

I ordered part number 12279-06J01 from Dubai (on a gut feel because mine wan't out yet) - but it turned out to be the wrong part. The inside diameter of that seal is 84mm - my crank measures 96mm!!! :surprised: See pic below of my seal.

Image

If we look at the part numbers that Gerrit posted I went through the following process of elimination:

12279-43G02 - This seal only ways 37g - impossible with the housing it comes - it is all one mould.

12279-06J00 - Came in Patrols from 10/97 to 11/99 and also in Patrol Bakkie from 09/00 to date
12279-06J01 - Came in Patrols from 11/99 to date and the W41 bus from 11/99 to 10/02. These two seals are also interchangable (according to the Nissan Catalogue) - although one is 308g and one 310g. So was a good possibillity.

12279-51N02 - the only seal thus far I could not get - and according to Nissan Catalogue only came in the W41 Civilian Bus. But then my engine is an imported engine and nothing is impossible - although the seller says it came out of a Nissan Safari. Suely must be another possibility??  With an alu casing cut away 6mm on either side it could be the weight difference between 06J01 (310g) and 308g for this one
The new genuine Nissan part I got from Dubai comes in an alu casing - thus explaining the little weight. Mine is still a cast iron casing - but I am sure that should not be too much of a problem.

:helpsign: :helpsign: :helpsign: - The need is high and I am desperate!!! If there s anybody out there that could give me any other / further assistance it will be greatly appreciated. Otherwise I will be driving "Oom Jan tuis bly se karretjie"!!

Many Thanks & Kind Regards

Hello Oom Mac

My seel het slegs n klein gaatjie in hom - gedink as ons ander seel bo-oor kan sit of so iets sal dit werk.

Groete
Pieter du Toit

Hi All

Just an update on my situation.

I found the right genuine Nissan seal for my car in New Zealand :woo: :woo: - and it is coming down with friends of family who will be landing in Cape Town Thursday afternoon at 16h20 - :woo: :woo:

That means that Friday the workshop can finish my car and by Friday night I will be able to leave on my holiday - effectively only losing 1day on my holiday.  That's not bad considering the dilemma I had on my hands for this time of the year.

Anycase - for those who want to need to know I can give the following information:

My vehicle's crank size is 96mm - the Nissan part number for that is 12279-51N02. This is the factory turbo'ed diesel model. These engines were used in Patrol Safari's in overseas country's from 1997 - 2002 but never came to SA.

Nissan part number 12279-43G02 is the same as 12279-06J00 12279-06J01 - this is only the rubber seal itself and would require youto use your old housing. It measures 84mm.

The other one that I got from Dubai measures 84mm (inside diameter of the seal or your crank size) - for the N/A diesels without the turbo in models 1997 to date. The Nissan part number there is 12279-06J00 or 12279-06J01 - these two seals are interchangable and confirmed by Nissan in Australia. Anyone needing a new rear main genuine Nissan seal I have got one that I could sell.

The other option is there is a place in Centurion that actually makes up oil seals to client spesifications - even if it is only a once off. My brother in law discovered the place on the net and he spoke to the owner this morning - who was more than willing to assist me but on the 04th Jan 2011 as he is on leave down in CT already. I will get the details of the company from my brother in law and inform everybody - because to my knowledge they are the only company that make up OIL SEALS - the rest like Bearing Man, SFK, All Seal, S.A. Sealing systems, Zoues Seals and there is a million more all only do HYDRAULIC SEALS!! This is the only company in SA that we could come across that actually makes up oil seals by customer's spesifications even if it is a once off.

So tonight I will have a good night's sleep for the first time since last week Monday since the oil leak was discovered - this was an extremel stressfull week and a half.

So yes guys and girls - I am off on holiday and will pop in from time to time .

I just wish to express my sincere thanks once again to Gerrit for posting the different part numbers - without those I would not even have known where to start looking!! Thanks Gerrit
