Hello Oom Mac

Dis of refurbish of nuut....daar is nie ander keuses nie.

Groete

Get hold of Turbo Exchange and let them give you advice. They do the turbo rebuilds for most of the major brands and are (in my experience here in Cape Town) total professionals. They will let you know if your turbo can or can't be rebuilt. The "whining" noise is most likely the journal bearing giving notice...that's a VERY easily fixable and pretty cheap repair.

Srxy,

I was also reffered to Turbo Exchange (via this forum) when my original turbo packed up and needed to be refurbished. The guy (unfortunately I can't remembe his name) I dealt with there said my turbo is not "fixable" or "repairable" and wanted to sell me a new one (was just over R12000 compared to Nissan's R18000) - whilst he wanted me to leave my broken turbo there because he will throw it away for me!!! :surprised: :naughty:

Sorry to say but that made me super suspicious - and I left with my turbo which was fixed and serviced by Turbo Repair Master. I don't think Motorite's warranty assessor would have authorised the claim if the turbo was not "repairable".

Maybe he saw I was not a very mechanical knowledgable person and took a chance......but he made me very supicious. I might not be very mechanical wise but being in the security industry I know when I smell a rat!!!

I spoke to the owner of the place when I went there. The dude at the front desk wasn't too "wys" and didn't think he could get me a new turbine wheel, so I asked to chat to the main dude in the back and he was able to get the right part numbers etc. I got a completely different experience than you did....bizzare. Maybe you can post the contact details for Turbo Repair Master so people can get quotes from them and Turbo Exchange in the future? Always good to have options...

I would have also been suspicious is someone tried to do that to me!
