Re: Price for 4.8 motor?
Hi Dave,
It seem to be the general consensus, space to little. I see wrecked complete vehicles titan/Armadas 5,6 V8 at reasonable prices might look at that. I keep looking.
No lexus in my Nissan.

Re: Price for 4.8 motor?
Get a Patrol 4.8 engine and stick it in there. It works perfectly. I have done almost 45000km with my 4.8 transpalnt in less than a year without one single glitch. They are available in the market. In my view it will help you retain the true value in the vehicle.

Re: Price for 4.8 motor?
Thanks I try him.
The 4,8 Seems to be the right choice "Standard" with power. Do you have a a direction to start looking for a 4,8 and what would it cost rough idee?

Re: Price for 4.8 motor?
Jeanne - my 4.8 has just been taken out, along with the gearbox, a/c pump, steering pump and some other stuff. The motor has about 105000km on it with a full service record. I'm looking for around R50 000 for the whole thing.

Re: Price for 4.8 motor?
Jeanne, this seems to be a very good opportunity. I have gone through this exercise myself with the transplant of a 4.8 into my previously 3.0Di body. Feel free to contact me if you want to capitalize on my lessons learned.

Re: Price for 4.8 motor?
Hi Guys,
What a pitty my motor still looks like the day it left the show room the bearings look like its the new replacement parts you cannot believe its done 240 000. I just returned from JHB, from nissan, to cost the spares, that look like a non starter, Other options are,
Alvan's 4,5 motor complete, well priced , Transplant and sell. Buy 2009 4,8 GRX 17000km, R300 000,
or Possible 4,8 conversion and keep it , JG what was the cost of the conversion and what was the pitfalls,
Would the 4,8 fit straight onto my 4,5 manual gearbox? what about mountings etc?
Sias is your box an auto and what replaced the 4,8?

Re: Price for 4.8 motor?
Jeanne,
I had a thread named "Project Lasarus" on the forum. It may be worth you while to read it. There will always be pitfalls. However, a Nissan to Nissan conversion should logically have less pitfalls than a non-Nissan to Nissan. The compatibility of engines onto gearboxes, mountings etc should depend on the models and their particular configurations. My transplant was a 4.8 petrol into a formerly ZD30 Patrol. I replaced the engine, gearbox, electrical lomms and everything that works with the 4.8. I was fortunate to take everything from the 4.8 wreck that I needed for a complete transplant. If one talks 4.8 into a formerly 4.5, I would think that the pitfalls will centre around the following components.
1. Gearbox - I can't tell for sure. My gut says it will be compatible as is.
2. Diff ratio - I think they are different. Consult Ellereys patrol manual. If the 4.5 had lower diff ratios than the 4.8, it may be to your advantage.
3. Electricals and speedo spool - This may be the biggest challenge since the 4.8 is of a more complex electrical design than the 4.5. However, the gurus transplant anything into everything these days and I can't see why it will not be possible. Hopefully you can obtain the engine bay looms, ecu and tcm as well. It will make you life much easier.
4. Cooling system - The 4.5 will work for the 4.8. It may require a different fancowl.
In general. I do not think that a 4.5 to 4.8 conversion will require any cutting, drilling or welding to the chassis and engine bay.
Cost is difficult to estimate. It should be based on the exact work required to be done.

Re: Price for 4.8 motor?
Both the TB45E and TB48DE powered versions of the Y61 Patrol use the FS5R50B five speed manual gearbox and the TX12A transfer case, so this bodes well for a plug-and-play solution. They both use the H233B front diff and H260 rear diff. The gear ratios are different though and the manual transmission TB48DE powered Patrol has a 6% deeper final drive ratio than the TB45E powered version:
TB45E
1st: 4.262:1
2nd: 2.455:1
3rd: 1.488:1
4th: 1.000:1
5th: 0.850:1
Reverse: 3.971:1
Final Drive: 4.111:1
TB48DE
1st: 4.085:1
2nd: 2.353:1
3rd: 1.426:1
4th: 1.000:1
5th: 0.881:1
Reverse: 3.806:1
Final Drive: 4.375:1
The result of all this is that the total reduction (gear x final drive) for the TB45E and TB48DE work out pretty similar, but with a TB48DE engine in a TB45E chassis the gearing will be a little taller, because:
Reverse, 1st, 2nd, 3rd: TB45E has 2% taller gearing
4th: TB45E has 6% taller gearing
5th: TB45E has 9% taller gearing
One little gotcha to be aware of, is that the transfer case on the TB48DE Patrols does not have the transmission mounted park brake (these Patrols have rear wheel mounted park brakes), so one cant readily transplant the whole engine-gearbox-transfer box combination from a TB48DE Patrol into a TB45E Patrol; one would need to use the transfer box from the TB45E.
TB45E
