Hi! In 2013 there was mention of "Peter's recovery points." What is the best way to fit 2 recovery points up front? I thought I might just buy another hook and fit it to the left front. May be that hook is just a towing hook and not a recovery point - not strong enough to yank a Patrol out of a hole. :helpsign:

I think the issue with a second recovery hook up front on the other side is that, whilst the holes are there in the chassis, they're not threaded. Meaning one cannot just bolt in the new hook. Peter's recovery points replace the recovery hook using the standard threaded bolt holes. And he does provide rivnuts to insert into the blank holes on the chassis for the other side.

Yip, I have 2 of Peters recovery hooks on my Patrol. I like them loads !!!

The drivers side if I recall correctly simply bolts on using the existing 3 bolts ( or was it 2... can't remember), the other side has the holes but no thread. Rivnuts work great here, BUT I wouldn't use the rivnut recovery point on any angled recovery. The proper bolted one I think will be fine as the bolts go through the full thickness of the chassis rail. The rivnut recovery point is perfect for the safety lanyard or a straight recovery with no jerking.... just my opinion. Chat with Peter Connan about them too.

Cedric

Soulby, the recovery points on the 4.8 are different from those of the earlier cars. Oh, and they are recovery points. Plenty strong. I have seen a bent one, but it took some seriojs abuse and the bend was in an area that doesn't in my opinion cause a risk.

I do not offer recovery points for tbe 4.8 because I can't do a stronger point than the factory one at the price you can buy it from Nissan (and I am sure you could get them cheaper from Partsouq or similar).

The good news is that on the 4.8, the attachment points already have captive nuts installed too. So all you need to get are an extra recovery point and a pair of longer bolts. M14 x 1.5 thread, but I can't remember how long. Pretty sure 50mm will be a bit longer than necessary without being too long to fit.

I also think the Njssan part number for the recovery point is mentioned on this forum somewhere...

From PartSouq on a 2003 4.8, the part number is : 51110VC205 (HOOK ASSY-FRONT).

Edit: The thread you are referring to is : https://patrol4x4.co.za/viewtopic.php?p=61432#p61432 Seems as if they quoted Fanus R610 for one in 2015. That is not a bad price. I am sure David will also have...
