Replacement or upgrade of 4.8 GRX brakes
I recently replaced the tyres on our Patrol and had a quick look at the brakes while the wheels were of the car. The front pads and discs looks fine - no ridges on the rotors and still 4 - 5mm of friction material on the pads. The rear rotors also looks good but the friction material on the pads seems nearly worn down (1-2 mm), so they may need to be replaced soon.
As a new owner, I would appreciate advice please. Should I just replace the pads with Nissan parts or should I rather look at Terrain Tamer or other third party pads. The Patrol does a quite a bit of city driving so the brakes work quite "hard" stopping 2,4 tons every few kilometers.
Thanks
Marthin

Nissan pads are fine.
But I would do Terrain Tamer. They are fantastic pads. I use them on my 4.5, and they are also what I used on my 4.8 before my ex wrote that off.

I have Terrain Tamer pads and rotors all around on mine. Brilliant pads, no issues at all.

Nissan is fine, but Terrain Tamer is better. I also have the terrain tamer's on my vehicle.

Re: Replacement or upgrade of 4.8 GRX brakes
I had to take my vehicle to Nissan Midrand for airbag recall, also asked them to check the break pads. It so happens, I still got around 3000km pads left. They gave me a quote of R4000 for front and rear without skimming.
I am preparing my vehicle for overland. Although lam trying to keep the weight as low as possible and keep it as stock as possible without any upgrades; I have already added Ikamper and FR awning already. Would you guys recommend a break upgrade to terrain tammer, or should I go with OEM?
How much would terrain tammer unit cost anyway?
Thanks.

Re: Replacement or upgrade of 4.8 GRX brakes
In my opinion, Terrain Tamer parts are top quality. I replaced the rotors and pads on mine in Jan 2019 with Terrain Tamer. Very happy and dead easy to replace. Stopping power is as good if not better in my opinion. I haven't yet changed the pads since fitting them, and when I changed the tyres in Dec 2020 the rotors still looked perfect. So, to answer your question, and save you money.... go for the Terrain Tamer.
Here is a link to how I did mine.
