Considering a 2016 GU 4.8 GRX
Hi
I discovered the Patrol 4x4 forum while searching for information on the Nissan Patrol. Looks like a great forum full of information.
Before committing to buy the Patrol (One owner car with FSH and about 63 500 km on), I hoped that current owners can answer a few questions I have.
1.) In don’t expect the Patrol to win any economy runs, but would appreciate feedback from owners on open road and in town fuel consumption. The previous owner said he averaged about 20l/100km. Is that about right, or better/worse than average?
2.) What is the quality of the standard headlights? Is it worth it to upgrade from halogen to LED globes?
3.) Any Nissan dealers in the northern suburbs of Johannesburg that you would recommend?
4.) Anything else that I should consider before buying?
Thanks in advance.

Re: Considering a 2016 GU 4.8 GRX
hello and welcome here
the 4.8 grx is n great car and you wil not be sorry buying one .
the lights are great as is but you can always add a good set of spots if you need .
Best guy to look after your patrol will be Anthony forgey form Ants custom workshop in Randburg . you can take the car to him for a check over if you want to also.
I have 3 4.8 grx cars on offer from guys that are immigrating or upgraded to a y62 but nothing as new as that .
you are welcome to give me a ring if you need more information on them . I sold a 2015 4.8 last week to NSRI with 70 000 km on . hope your patrol finds you soon
regards
Tinus

Re: Considering a 2016 GU 4.8 GRX
Welcome Martin
I think that fuel consumption is probably about average.
Reports vary from about 7km/l for lightly-loaded open-road cruising to about 4km/l for caning it around town.
My understanding is that just replacing bulbs with LED's often doesn't deliver the improvement expected because the bulbs don't work well with reflectors designed for normal bulbs.
As for Nissan dealers, it may be better to just forget that they exist. We have a couple of good indies on the forum, and good quality parts can be imported from places like Partsouq for cheaper, or sourced from Terrain Tamer. We also have a good source of second-hand parts on the forum.

I owned a 2004 4.8 GRX until very recently.
Fuel consumption:
Desert from Luderitz to Walvis Bay - full throttle all the way - 1.8km per l.
Towing an off-road caravan at 100-110km/h - 4.8km/l
Town driving - 4km/l
Open road at around 110km - 6.5km/l
Fuel consumption is directly linked to the weight of your right foot and depending on the size of your purse, the 4.8 might not be your daily drive - or at least it is not mine...
Head lamps - LED worked perfectly on our GRX - inside the vehicle and outside.
Dealers - I have along standing relationship with Brits Nissan - our vehicle was serviced by them for 6 years without any issues - they also fitted our aftermarket bumper and spotlights. You can tell them I referred you (https://www.patrol4x4.co.za/viewtopic.php?f=65&t=9591) - you will not be disappointed.
Groete/Regards,
George Brittnell

Re: Considering a 2016 GU 4.8 GRX
Shoo. A 4.8 of that age and that mileage, you’ll have a trouble free car for the next 20 years!
I get between 5.5 and 6km/l, but mine doesn’t work very hard. Never any very heavy loads or towing.
Headlights are fine I think, dipped might be a little too dipped for my liking though, but brights are fine.
I haven’t dealt with a Nissan dealer since I’ve had mine, there’s no need to, we have enough aftermarket support

Re: Considering a 2016 GU 4.8 GRX
Thanks for all the feedback and encouragement.
I signed the OTP today so hopefully we will have the Patrol by the weekend. I will post some pictures after taking delivery.
My wife will use the Patrol as a daily driver, so our fuel bill will increase “slightly” but she really likes the Patrol. I hope I get a chance to drive it on weekends.
Looking forward to years of adventure with the Patrol!

My woman can't stand driving the patrol. But her natural habitat is underground parking at malls, and it is a tight squeeze for that
