Johan Botha
Hi everyone.
I just bought myself a Patrol, having been convinced more than ten years ago by Phillip (die dominee/Raka/don't know his forum name here) that it was the best 4x4 ever built. His words of wisdom stuck with me for all those years and when I started looking I immediately gave him a call. Being a member hear he introduced me to Tinus 'Patrol' Lotz who quickly sourced me a real beauty. Baie dankie vir n sweet deal
I've always been an offroad biker and naturally progressed towards adventure biking, only using my Ford Ranger to tow bikes into areas not normally accessible to non 4x4 vehicles. Me and my gf, a very capable biker herself, have done numerous epic trips together over the past eight years and always talked about the 4x4 thing. One of our dreams, after doing the Kaokoland unsupported on the bikes in 2019, was to tackle trips into Angola and beyond. We first wanted to recce the routes as far as possible with a 4x4 and acquaint ourselves with the terrain, the people etc before doing it with the bikes. Only problem, my Ranger already had 360,000kms on the clock and had started to play up a little bit, so the Patrol it was going to be We have since warmed up quite a bit to the 4x4 way of travelling and are planning on doing all those destinations which were always out of bounds for us on the bikes. We're just pretty scared of Botswana and all the lions, still need to figure out how you guys cope with them around the camp....
Tinus has really roped me in and I've spent a lot of time getting to know members from the forum. All wonderful standup guys which I would like to meet on a more social level, maybe on the 'River Trip' which we read about. We managed to find the trip report for 2019, but need to search for the new event to put down our names. It looks like a proper trip and can't wait to join in the fun.
