Which tyres for a 4.8
On my way back from Malongane, we took a short cut via Vryheid - unfortunately we got 2 punctures - both rear wheels. plugs did not work and we had a hard 400 km of stopping every 20 minutes to inflate the one tyre (Spare already replaced other tire) . Fortunately a scuba cylinder does contain plenty of tire air fills. Thanks to the guys who stopped in a yellow Patrol to assist.
Question, which tire and size should I go for. I need 4 now , should I stay with 275/70 16 or can I go a bit bigger? I need some all terrain not real muddies.
Thx

You could have a look at going up to 285/75/16 (33")... It should give you a bit of a lift as well. I'm currently running the Pirelli Scorpion ATR in 265/70/17 and found them to be a good all-rounder.

I went for the 285/75x16 Bridgestone Dueler M/T's but you can go for the Dueler A/T's

Dueller AT are a great tyre i agree there. Huge milage and solid performance all round, except maybe mud i'd imagine.

Bridgestone Dueler (694) A/T 275/75/16. Expect excellent A/T driving and high milage. I am suspisious of the 285 simply from a reduction of power perspective. The standard 4.8, in my opinion, run at slightly to low revs. A 10% increase in revs does the power and fuel consuption good. The 285 will have the opposite effect.

Andries ek ry ook 'n 4.8 GL
Here's my 2 cents worth:
I have 2 sets of rims.
On the original steel set I have 285/75/16 Goodyear MTR's with approx 20 000 km tyre life left.
Fantastic offroad setup with the 2" OME lift. It drives and pulls just as well fully laden towing an offroad trailer. Make no mistake, with the larger tyres there is an impact on gearing and therefore a slight reduction in overall performance. The speedo and fuel consumption is now far too accurate! Only mod that helps a bit with more power is the free flow exhaust.
On the mag rim set I have the original equipment tyres (275/70/16) Bridgestone HT's.
I find them undersized for the GL. They spin far too easily, particularly on wet tar. I suspect there is too much silicone in the compound!
I am also in the market for a good AT tyre. I am in two minds - BFG vs Bridgestone AT D694's. I am not a Bridgestone fan, but this is a good all round tyre.
I suspect that I am going to opt for the Bridgestone D694 in a 285/75/16 size! I will / need to buy 6 as i rotate them.
Let me know what sort of quotes you are ale to obtain?
Decisions, decisions ...

Give Johann 'Tyres' Viljoen a call to get the best prices. If I'm not mistaken, his cruiser is shod with Deuller 694s
