ZD30 EGR delete ECU fool

Post by ChristophB »

Hi y'all,

not sure this has been covered in the forum. Couldnt find any info hence my post in case anyone has same issue or wants to play with their soldering iron.

After buying my patrol with ZD30 DI, I saw the PO deleted the EGR and also the EGR volume control valve. This let to the ECU throwing code 1003 which is the missing EGR volume control valve.
Usually when deleting EGR you block the ports but leave the valve plugged in for the ECU to be fine. Now that the valve was gone and plug was left empty I had three options:
1. get used EGR valve
2. fool ECU into thinking the EGR valve is there without actually being there
3. dump ZD30

After reading up on the EGR valve in the ZD30 manuals I figured I can just use 4 resistors to fool the ECU and to imitate the EGRs resistance for the ECU to think it is plugged in.
I still had 4 resistors with 33 Ohm/25 W lying around. According to manual resistance is 16-17 Ohm (pic egr4). Double the resistance but thought Ill give it a try.
Quickly soldered the 4 resistors in place (see pic egr3) and plugged it in the EGR valve connector as per pic egr3 and egr4.

Doesnt look pretty but works until option 3 is realized. CEL is off and no more code 1003.

Hi Christoph

I have a bunch of secondhand ZD30 parts for sale after my Patrol's TD42T swap, including the EGR valve. This is a link to my spare parts thread: viewtopic.php?f=71&t=8871

Let me know if you interested.
