Peter Connan wrote: 07 Nov 2019 16:54 I have long been dreaming of crossing the border into Moz at Pafuri, then through the river, then north into Zim into Gonarhezhou. That could be the start of an epic trip, but it seems as if Zim's camping fees are a bit crazy.
Many years ago I tried that trip to get to Vilanculos. Spent a night in the Kruger at Pafuri, then crossed the border and drove towards Mapai to cross the river. Sadly we went in December and just getting from Pafuri to close to Mapai crossing took some serious tactics through deep.... DEEP water. Like over the bonnet deep !!

With the river flowing like it was, there was no way to cross, so had the turn back and enter into SA at Pafuri, and travel south to Giriyondo and cross into Moz there. Beautiful border post I must say, but added many many hours onto our journey. landed up having to find accommodation in Bilene before traveling north to Inhambabe.

I would LOVE to try that trip again.....just not in the rainy season !!

Cedric

100% Cedric - Reminds me of my first trip with the trol (stock std) - river was low - couldn't understand what all the fuss was about, until a few years later ;-)
O and then I found gold at the end of the rainbow...

Verseker Richtersveld n volgende keer, hoog op my Bucket lys! Hierdie is my voorlopige plan wat dan insluit Lulas Paradise en die ander plek (?) wat Tinus genoem het. My grootste oorweeging was bietjie minder ry, my vorige verlof het ek 6000km gedoen.

Jy ry n Patrol, no prob  .

Sterkte
John

Here's my post form way back when, but not much has changed - some roads have improved and some got worse. The next year we did the crossing it was knee high.
