I fully agree with Peter Connan's view.

I have also loaded my roof rack and have added extra supports to even the load on the rails. I have also never had an issue including the Faces's trip, but what has not being spoken about which always sits in the back of my mind is an emergency situation. A loaded roof rack will affect your recovery from an emergency and will add to the situation and this is where your safety comes in account. You cannot predict or plan for an emergency situation so always keep it as low as possible.

For example, I always fill my jerry cans at the last possible fuel station and empty them as fast as possible to take the load off even at times during the day and not even wait to the evenings.
