Re: New here Advice on new Patrol
More Mal Hannes,
Groete

Re: New here Advice on new Patrol
I just want to relate my experience with an Android Double Din Radio that I installed in my Pathfinder.
It was in about 2013 or 2014, they were very expensive and very new on the market. It was great and although I never used the GPS functions, or fitted a phone Sim card (to use email or any online functions) I found the lack of a decent media player on mine very frustrating.
I downloaded a music player App from the Google App Store. In fact I downloaded several of these and did not find any of them any good, there seemed a bug on the android operating system in playing any of my music.
After about 2 years, I found a guy who I took the unit to, to upgrade the Android 2 (I think it was Jellybean) to a newer version of Android (Android upgrade their operating system about once a year) and although he managed to do an upgrade to a newer version, it was still about 2 versions behind. Due to processor and other restrictions, mine was not upgradeable to any newer operating systems versions of Android than that.
I eventually removed the Android Radio and fitted a Targa non-Android (Targa from www.autostyle.co.za) unit that I enjoy very much and did not cost an arm and a leg. I eventually fitted a similar unit in my Patrol as well.

Re: New here Advice on new Patrol
I got a Planetworld radio (my pioneer decided not to work anymore........for shame).
Got this one:
https://planetworld.co.za/product/6-75- ... to-system/
Was looking at the one nav units, awesome units but their wireless apple CarPlay app is a third party app, so there is a big chance after a firmware update on the phone it might not work anymore. So took the above one, it has apple CarPlay as well as android auto (took maps extra, TomTom). So far its been working great. The screen quality is not as sharp as the pioneer was, but the screen is a lot more responsive than the pioneer. And what I like, when you put in reverse and the reverse cam comes on, it automatically lowers the volume. Im old, I need quiet to reverse
Also took the steering wheel integration thing, so works 100%
But have to say, if you use Android *spit*, then one nav would be the win

Re: New here Advice on new Patrol
So a quick question to the radio gurus, which one of these are able to play video / youtube etc? Yes obviously before I get crucified, I know it should not be used while driving maaaar I would love to have it connected up to my phone or sim card so when I am parked enjoying a beer under the tree I can stream my fav vids or shows. My old unit is still the original with tape deck and 6 CD shuttle - maybe time for an upgrade specifically for the use of maps..
Oh and are any of these compatible with after market maps like T4A etc?
