Wilfred Moore did this a few years ago.

I don't think he's been on the forum for a long time, but perhaps a PM will draw a response...

Hi Ashraf,

Bucket list...have done extensive planning but never actually done it (only as far as Malawi). Whilst I know Tanz quite well, I can put you in contact with my Landy mate that has lived there for 10 odd years and helped me with my planning (I attach some ideas). He will advise on 'better' Parks/roads to visit on your way to Serengeti. I was up in the area last week (actually just outside the Park - work), but always fly in, or drive from Mwanza ... send a PM if interested.

Enjoy the planning, almost as fun as doing the trip.

If that's your main reason be sure to plan the time of the year accordingly. The wildebeest trek is clockwise through the Serengeti and touching into the Maasai and then back again and varies from year to year depending on the abundance of grass/rainfall. The river crossings are the most spectacular and they generally cross the Grumeti in late June/July (quite dry) and then the Mara in Sept/Oct. My first trip was in April 2012 and we saw fabulous crossings in the south over smaller tributaries, but it was wet! Even the smaller rivers were flooded and crossing was tricky because of the crocs. Most major road crossings have poles to show were the 'roads' are but these are often under water as we experienced and thank goodness we had GPS crumbs to follow. I have subsequently been almost every year and it is always spectacular. But, as stated above would love to take a month off and drive up from Cape Town. Also keen to hear when Ashraf plans to go...
