165k km service for 4.8 grx

Post by Forest »

Good day

I need to have my 4.8 patrol serviced as part of the extended warranty I got when purchasing the vehicle.

I looked in the service book what would need to be checked/Replaced at 165k km. But the sevice book ends at 150k km. Where could I find this info? Could someone advise.

Any recommended RMI approved service centres in Nelspruit?

Thanks

Personally I wouldn't bother much about a warranty on a 4.8. Rather save the bucks an RMI place will no doubt rip you, and get it serviced properly by a reputable indi, where in Nelspruit I dont know though unfortunately.

Or, DIY, even Im able to do the oil and filter changes on mine, and I only just understand the difference between a spanner and a hammer

This is just my personal (and a bit tainted) view on these warranties though after experience with one and a VW (spit)

At 165000km you will just need to do oil and filters, the heavy stuff would/should have been done at 150... Only thing that's kak difficult on the 4,8 service is getting to the oil filter  Get a filter ratchet that fits your socket set with a long extension

Good morning.

Thanks for everyone's feedback.

So I eventually decided to do the service myself, got a haynes manual and all the necessary bits and pieces for the service. I replaced all filters, all oils and the belts.

I still need to do the coolant, brakefluid and brake pads.

After alot of reading I decided to go with the nissan matic J transmission oil as recommended by forum members and the service manual. What i did find that the oil in the gearbox was a yellow color and still quite new. Based on the color I knew it was not the nissan matic J which is red, so I drained and flushed the transmission anyways.

With the the Matic J now in the gearbox there is a huge difference in the feel of the pull away, gear shifts and the drive. It feels just so much smoother. There used to be a bit of a clunk sound and the vehicle slightly jumped forward when shifting from park to drive. This is now totally gone with the new oil. So I guess there is good reason why the matic J is recommended for the transmission.

Cheers
