Re: TB42 Cold starting problems
Latest update on the flooding problem: My uncle - who used to be a mechanic visited recently. I told him about my problem and immediately started working on the carb (22:00 Sunday evening). Started taking the carb apart from the top. When he got the needle, he noticed a spring-loaded bracket that wa...

Re: Lesotho Shortcut

Re: Lesotho Shortcut
Peter Nice trip report.

Re: Is the Doctor in – Engine Temperature?
I see Ross mentioned the same experience, and then mentioned the size of his tires. I've also noticed recently that my 96 4.2 SGL runs at higher temperatures than I'm used to. This began after I put some bigger rubber on the car (also 33' Bighorns). Would the the tire size really make such a big dif...

Re: TB42 Cold starting problems
Some feedback so far: I am still waiting for the carb kit , but in the meantime the mech has suggested that I start the Patrol at least every second day and have it idle for a few minutes, just to keep everything wet I suppose. Been doing that now for two weeks and never had a starting problem since...

Re: TB42 Cold starting problems
Peter Thanks for the info - especially where I can find the parts. The guys at Nissan reckons my Trol was made in Germany - ja whol! No wonder the Jap is a bit confused in Africa. I'll definitely look into the bypassing trick once the flooding problem is sorted. Who knows, maybe I will also challeng...

Re: TB42 Cold starting problems
Jules Carb kit is what the mech suggested, only it seems a bit hard to find one. I'll ask him about electronic ignition as I don't know what that is and how it works. I'm thinking of trying ignition by matches... I saw your post on the jerky Troll and already forwarded that advice from TourdeFrans t...

TB42 Cold starting problems
Hi all I've been looking at your forum for a while now and found it most informative. I'm a greenhorn when it comes to things mechanical, but I have a keen spirit to learn more. I've bought a second hand '96 4.2 SGL Petrol with about 200k on the clock. I basically use it as weekend toy, and try to e...
