TD42 Lift Pump
Ok so I have done a search on the forum, but could not find any info on this topic.
So I have noticed for a while now that my Patrol has sort of a hesitation around the 3,000rpm mark. If feels just like a engine with diesel starvation so I did a search on the net and found allot of the Australian guys have the same problem.
Sounds like after many years of driving there can be small leaks on the fuel lines which can draw in small amounts of air and can cause cavitation in the IP (injector pump).
This in return can cause your injection timing to be slightly retarded and will explain a few other thing I have noticed. Also the wear in the IP also doesnt help much and makes it a bit worse as well.
Obviously I will change the diesel filter first as well as check that copper inlet pipe on the IP as it can be blocked.
But for the long term it seems like there are quite a few benefits in installing a lift pump on the fuel line to supply the IP with diesel so that it doesn't have to work so had to suck the fuel all the way from the tank. People that have done this said that the power delivery accross the whole rev range was very smooth.
Any one done this or have this installed on their diesel?

Re: TD42 Lift Pump
Thanks Cedric and its very interesting.
Seems like a straight forward process to do. You going to fit one on your Patrol?
Where can I get a pump like that?

Re: TD42 Lift Pump
I don't have the "starvation" problem yet, but figured that if you labour the IP less while still in good shape, and since we are fueling our motors almost to the max, it can't be a bad thing to do anyway. I haven't done any research on pump availability here, but there must be something decent at a decent price.

Re: TD42 Lift Pump
I would like the idea of a through flow pump on mine, should be less of a modification to install and less of a worry if it decides to fail.
