From Bethlehem to Breitbridge and back

Post by stobi_de »

Hello,
in 2 weeks my wife and me will come back to your country.
I have to stamp my Carnet paper and go for a very short time to MOZ or ZIM.
My friend told me, that he replaced the injectors and the engine is now running.
We will see, but it is a MUST to leave the country.

At the moment I have still the wildcard for the national parks, valid until september 2015.
Which nice parks (accepting this wildcard) with a lot of animals are on the way to Breitbridge or Komatipoort?
I hope, that I have enough time to see some more of your country and not only the engine of my car.

Facebook? What is that?
Yes, I'm. There is only one "Frank Stober".

Moutain passes: let me first try the engine and then decide.

Btw: is there another borderpost to ZIM? I heard, that Breitbridge is not a nice place. I see nothing on the maps.

What about a trip through the Kruger going in at Numbi or so and exiting at Crocodile Bridge which is close Komatipoort to enter into Moz....

Last time I was a little bis disappointed of Kruger-NP.
Streets with TAR, everywhere cars, no offroad, no gravel, the campsites are giant, supermarkets, millions of people....

OK, I saw wild dogs....so nothing to complain. But too much civilisation

Between SA and Zim we have only the one crossing. What about via Botswana. Have not done it myself, but it is an option what I have heard.

Hm, Plumtree is a little bit far and no parks around.
I heard about a borderpost inside the Kruger-NP to MOZ? Is that only a fairytale or history?

Frank, there is a border post in the Kruger, known as Giriyondo. Please note that you have to spend at least two nights in the Kruger to be allowed through (this is to stop contractors using it as a short-cut).

There is also a Mozambiquan park on the other side of Giriyondo, which is very much less travelled, but not many animals.

There is only one border post between SA and Zim, but there are a number between Bots and Zim, and also a couple between Zim and Moz.

This may be a bit far, but a real adventure for you: Exit SA into Moz at Pafuri (right at the orthern tip of KNP, so spend a bit of time in KNP as well), then follow the Limpopo down to Mapai-Ngala and cross over there (no bridge, proper off-road adventure), then head north-east to Chiqualaquala (border post between Moz and Zim, enter Zim and go to Gonarezhou!
