Re: Diesel Patrol 90s
Finding a diesel Patrol for R40K will take a bit of time, cause they don't come up too often. In that price range it will be a GQ, or maybe an old Safari with the RD28 motor.
Turbo'ing a diesel is also not just a matter of fitting the turbo. The older TD42's and RD28's ( I may be wrong on the RD28 ) were never turbo'ed and will probably have very high mileage and will need to be opened up and possibly new rings and bearings fitted.
The type of turbo also plays a huge roll in how your motor will perform. You need to get the A/R ratio correct for the size of motor. Safari do an aftermarket water cooled turbo for the Patrol/Safari, but these aren't cheap. You will need a good intercooler too. You could easily spend a little fortune to do the conversion.
Lets hear what the other guys have to say.

Re: Diesel Patrol 90s
I had the previlage to be taken for a ride in Michaels 4.2TD. That thing pulls like mad. He might be a good guy to compare notes with when it comes to the turbo bit. His engine was not a turbo 4.2. He made it a turbo 4.2 With all the correct inners. Those 4.2's are awsome.
Cedric, know I know why you are so in love with your maiden.

Re: Diesel Patrol 90s
Josh.... there is nothing nicer than pulling off and hearing the turbo spool up, and then change gears and have the whistle of the gasses dumping into the exhaust between gear changes...... its so nice it like being a teenager and looking at those naughty magazines for the first time.......

Re: Diesel Patrol 90s
BTW... just a slight correction .... Michaels TD42 motor did have a turbo on with water to air intercooler on. He converted it to air to air intercooler, but the plumbing was all there already.

Re: Diesel Patrol 90s
Norman,
The Safari linked to by OffroadBiker (Dirk) is still there - I drove past the dealership again this morning.
As mentioned, I've not had a lot of a chance to go and get details on it yet, but I can make a plan to stop by there this evening if you're interested.
Let me know.
Ian

Re: Diesel Patrol 90s
Well yes, it was a turbo conversion done by Safari I think. The problem was it was just bolted on and it didnt last.ricster wrote:BTW... just a slight correction .... The plumming I had to do from scratch as I fitted the front cooler, change the whole inlet system including the air box, snorkel and did the exhaust. So the only thing I could use from the previous conversion was the Turbo charger.....
