DC-DC 30A charger
Hi Guys
have any of you had experience with DC-DC chargers i.e. are they effective? Something just doesn't add up
DC-DC 30A charger
Link: http://www.4x4direct.co.za/shop/electri ... p-1145.htm
is is a 30A battery to battery charger.
When you put a battery in the back of your vehicle and run a cable from your main battery, you will most probably get a voltage drop.
This will result in the extra battery to be not charged properly.
The DC to DC charger is a step up charger which boosts the voltage at the extra battery to up to 14.2 volt in order to ensure a proper charge.
This intelligent charger will automatically cut off the circuit to the main battery the moment that the main battery drops below 12.5 volts. This means no more complicated solinoid systems.
Thank you
John

Re: DC-DC 30A charger
Looks like it does the same as the C Tek 250 S dual.
I was sceptical but it works. I do however have 16 mm battery cables running to it as they where already there before I had the charger. Before the charger my batteries would charge to a max of 12.7 volts and with the charger I have got up to 14.1 volts.
I have the C Tek connected to 2 batteries at the back.
Also very usefull if you want to charge from a solar panel as you do not need a regulator.

Re: DC-DC 30A charger
But that is a 220v AC to 12v DC charger, so won't charge while driving.
JohnBoy, I also have the C-Tek 250 dual, which this one from 4x4 direct seems to copy ( may be wrong on who copied who ....haha ) but these work brilliantly, and all you do is connect it up to your main battery. The rest is done by the unit. The C-Tek was money well spent for me..... and I got great aftersales service from Johann Carstens, who unfortunately left C-tek and is now with Snomaster ( Meadowdale -JHB ), but I'm sure if you give him a shout he will still assist you to get into contact with the right people

Re: DC-DC 30A charger
Excellent, thanx for the advice all. Will maybe opt for the C-Tek as my AC-DC C-Tek charger is still going strong after many years.

Re: DC-DC 30A charger
Just another question, will it make a difference where you install i.e. engine comp. feeding back, or in the back next to the DCycle?

Re: DC-DC 30A charger
The closer to the second battery the better. It also has a temp sensor that needs to be placed on the second battery and the wire is not long enough to make it from under the bonnet to the back.JohnBoyZA wrote:Just another question, will it make a difference where you install i.e. engine comp. feeding back, or in the back next to the DCycle?
I would also imagine that the under bonnet temperatures may affect it.
