Re: My GU 4.2 Turbo Diesel
I played around this weekend on the dash pod by casting a mold of the very curvy dash the older Y61 has. So if you are willing to vasbyt a bit, I may be able to save you a LOT of headaches!!
I have made a split mold. One part that goes over the passenger airbag, and then another section that covers the area above the vents in the centre of the dash and covers the cluster. This way if someone wants a dash gauge pod but has the passenger airbag, one can leave it off.
The reason for covering the cluster part to is that I want to get the dash "pod" to look like it was factory built. To get a colour match between the existing dash and new pod will not be easy as I don't want to spray paint the new dash cover, but rather cover it in Alcantara. This is a suede look type of leather material that one sees in race cars. There will be a thin foam between the fibreglass and the Alcantara to give it a soft touch.
I have a lot of sanding to still do to get the shape 100% and to my liking. The gauge pod will have a blank surface so one can mount however many and what ever shape gauges. The shape of the new dash piece will have a little cover/shield on the top to shield the gauges from direct sunlight too ( so slightly recessed )
Here is a website that will give you an idea as to what look I'm trying to go for.

On my passenger side airbag area, the dash pod will have a recess on top so one can put something on there without it sliding of like it does at the moment, and then on the front face I want to have a flat ( slightly recessed ) face where my GPS can mount onto to keep that also out of direct sunlight.

Re: My GU 4.2 Turbo Diesel
Cedric, I would love to see some pics of your progress!!
I think if you could get the vinyl color and texture close to that of the Patrol's dash it will look awesome. I think I will wait with my attempt and see how yours look....

Met my vorige voertuig het ek gevind dat ek maar telkens eerder die vensters moet oopmaak om mooi wild te kyk en dan help die aircon nie veel in die warm somer maande nie............
