Introducing myself

Post by PatrolAfrica »

Hi all im new to this forum. I recently purchased a lovely 2007 Patrol 4.8 fuel guzzler with 92500km and loving it. Over the years ive owned numerous Pajero's, Grand Cherokee's, Mitsubishi Colts, Mitsubishi Triton's, 1xNissan Hardbody, 1x Ssang Yong Korando (1st 4x4) and more recently a Mercedes-Benz Gelandewagen.

I like each one for different reasons with the most comfortable probably the Pajero, most capable the Gelandewagen, most underrated the Triton and probably also now the Patrol.

This is not my daily ride but a pure leisure vehicle that will do approx 5000kms per annum, hence me not being too worried about hefty fuel bills for now. I change max every 2 years purely to experience more brands, but maybe I keep this one...:-O

For now would appreciate advice on why the steering shakes at approx 110kmh and how to fix?

I like reading up on interesting DIY projects in particular. ..well thats me!

Welcome Marius

The most likely cause for a slight steering wobble is bad wheel balancing or similar (such as a bent rim).

Keep in mind that some tires (not makes, just individual tires) are almost impossible to balance, particularly if they have had a rough time (chunks missing etc), and also that some wheel balancing specialists are undeniably better than others.

Other things to check is whether there is any play in the wheel bearings, the panhard rod, the swivel hub bearings and any part of the steering linkage.
Mag ons ons kenniskry met lekkerkry aanhoukry.

Welcome to the forum!

- Like you, my Patrol is also there for fun and only do around 8000km a year, its an awesome vehicle and the term gas-guzzler is not unique to this beast. I have friends with Landruisers, NAvara's etc and my trok is no worse than theirs on consumption :mytwocents:
