Lambda sensor 3.0D

Post by Rodney »

Mechanics have advised me that the lambda sensor that should be on the exhaust just below the exhaust manifold has been removed when a new downpipe was fitted by the previous owner. Apparently this would measure CO2 and the computer should normally use this signal to control air/fuel mixture.

MY QUESTION IS - how critical is this sensor - need I worry about replacing it????

Thanks for that. The confusion has come in because there has clearly been a section of down-pipe cut out and replaced, and the mechanics noted a lead and plug fastened with a cable tie to the firewall. They took this to be a connector for the lamda sensor. I will tell them ti ignore.

Thanks

Rodney your vehicle runs what is basacally a VP44 pump system , i spke to one of my Diesel Pump specialists today and chcked wiring configurations also and on a 2001 with VP44 def no O2 sensor and can promise you if it was removed you would have had a engine management light lit up complianing about the sensor , i knwoas we custom manufacture similators to bluff the ECU into seeing the sensor as working and in place
