My brand new 1984 Patrol

Postby Sias » 05 Mar 2011 18:33

I have been eyeing a certain Patrol for quite a few months now. Yesterday, on my way to get some Nando's, I decided to stop and ask about it. I pulled it into my driveway this afernoon! It's a 1984 Patrol 160,2.8l 6 cyl, 152600km and in reasonably good shape. Obviously it needs some work and I already have a whole list of things that need to be done - a new paintjob being the first!
Oh yes - I paid R20 000...!

thats cheap as chips mate!

If the original paintwork and its in decent nick, then don;t respray. I like original. resprays always look like resprays....

This is an awesome project vehicle, any ideas what you have planned for it.

By the way, these things flex like a 16yr old female japanese gymnast when set up right.

Dankie manne! Klink of ek 'n bargain gekoop het!
Russ - paintwork not original, so it's going to change. Don't know to what though, maybe a type of khaki? Maybe the yellowish coulour on the top part?
Suspension will be changed to OME or TJM, with a bit of lift.
New front and rear bumper with a wheel carrier is also on the list - any ideas on where to go for this?
Where will be the best place to look for parts? Looking for all the rubbers (windows, doors, tailgate) and then the indicator lenses need to be replaced. Also the headlights are cr.p and will be replaced and some spotlights on the bumper.
My plan is to strip the whole thing to the bone and have the chassis cleaned and resprayed/rubberized, have the upholstery and carpets redone and the whole cab section resprayed while it's off the chassis.
The whole thing needs to be re-wired as well.
I have no experience doing this sort of thing, so it should be fun.

he he he - jy vra te veel vrae met eenslag Sias
For the front headlights - replace with Golf [I did on Lobo, and they do fit, if you do it right]

Look in the enjin-bay, it should disclose what the original colour was? They look best in white.

Dont takle too long, Lobo has been looking for a "comrade" for long time now!
Geluk met di eaankoop - Geniet hom !!!

Very nice Sias!

On my to-do list will be an Ignitor (No points ever!) and some decent rims and tyres.
I like the darker paint around the windows.
Here is a pic of my old Patrol:
