OK, here's the finished product!
IMG_20180420_151126.jpg
Looks very nice. The bonnet was actually a write-off, but panel beater did a good job in fixing it, and fitting the scoop neatly.

The important bit is the difference in performance!

Michael tells me even the guys at SAC were impressed/amazed with how much that littel turbo could churn out!
Consider where we started: 50kW/190Nm on the back wheels (80% up on kW, 65% up on Nm!)
Also, taking standard losses into consideration, this gives it roughly 120kW and 420Nm on the engine!!!

OK, on road experience ('cause that's what matters!)...

Where the difference after stage 1 (Turbo and exhaust) was slightly more than subtle, now it's a new car all together!
It runs through first so quickly, you almost want to start in second.
Between 80km/h and 120km/h (overtaking), there is a lot of willingness to move forward, on my trip back home I realised this immediately. Max torque is around 105km/h in 5th.

EGT's:
Because of the intercooler, temps have come down considerably.
Cruising at 120km/h, looks like 470-490C.

I hooked my heavy trailer this week for a short trip to an auction. Firstly, there was no trace of sluggishness. Settled nicely in 4th at 100km/h, EGT's under control.
On the way back, with a 500kg+ cow added, on a long incline, I went back to 3rd (because of EGT temp rising above where I wanted it), stayed at 90km/h, EGTs coming down sharply.

At the top end, if you push her, the EGTs run away. But this is because of my choice of smaller turbo - just not enough air available for the fuel. This is no problem for me, as I did not want a street racer. If a stick to my normal drive style, this very seldom happens, and on the odd occasion we pass 600C - the Madman warns me at 590 - I just take my foot off the accelerator for a moment and adjust the compression slightly.

Verdict:
I love the willingness, and especially when overtaking!
It still feels most comfortable at around 120km/h, and takes about half the time to get there! :woo:

I will let you know re. fuel consumption.
We are planning a trip down to the Cape with the roof tent later in the year. That should be a revelation! (Last time we drove up, we did 90 in 4th through the Karoo  )!

Kids still LOVE!!!! the car, now even more.

GREAT JOB MICHAEL!!!

Keep well, stay safe and blessed!

Christoph

Forgot to mention the new radiator's effect...

Normal operation coolant temps haven't gone above 87C.
Heavy trailer topped at 96C!

Christoph, bly jy geniet jou nuwe setup.

Geniet hom

As promised, an update on fuel consumption... I'm up to about 6.6km/l avg. Worst I got thus far was 6.1 (more farm driving), best 6.8 longish road trip. Still, it's almost a 10% improvement

We are doing a long trip down to the Cape in October, will maybe cross the 7 barrier then!

Otherwise all still A-OK!

OK, broke the "magical 7"km/h :woo: on a trip to Pilanesberg!

Verdeling van km's as volg:

Pad Pilanesberg toe, luggage trailer gesleep. - 40%
Een trip Rustenburg toe sonder sleepwa. - 20%
(Op oop pad 100-120km/h (spoedgrens).)
In reservaat meestal in 3de. (30-40km/h.) - 40%

Gou 'n update...

1) LED spot-ligte interfere met midband twee-rigting radio:
Of so het ek uitgevind! - ek ry maar my patrolliebeurte graag met my Patrol, en dan is radio-koms natuurlik belangrik! Halogeenlampe het daai probleempie opgelos.

2) Control arm, en voorste wielbearings en seels:
Ek moes noodgedwonge my voorste wielbearings vervang. Interessant was dat die vorige eienaar hul op 'n stadium moes vervang het, en die seels "verkeerdom" (tegnikus se woord) ingesit het. Dit beteken dat ek water tot in my voordiff sou gekry het as ek deur diep strome gery het. Genade!!!
So, as iemand dringend 'n control arm met nuwe buste nodig het...ek reken hy sal 'n ruk hou!

Lekker dag,
Christoph

Nou maar toe, beste brandstofverbruik ooit! 7.38km/l op 475km trip; volgelaai.
(50ppm + Wurth Dieselcure).

Ek leer nou mooi, hou hom rondom 2600rpm @ 120km/h.
Dis net wanneer spoedbeperking 100km/h is, dat ek met lang bult-op 4de toe moet gaan (weens EGT's). Soos ek sê: momentum-kar.

Mooi bly en lekker, veilig ry!
