old used up 285 / 70 /16 tyres wanted

Post by Picasso »

I am looking for a set of old used up tyres of the size 285 / 70 / 16 or alternatively 285 / 75 / 16.
I want to test how this size of tyre effects the driveabilety in terms of gearing (4.5 auto). I want to test the suitability on an old set of tyres before committing to spend a lot of money on a new set.
So if anyone in the Gauteng area consider changing to a new set of tyres or has a old set lying around which I could purchase for little money and a handshake.... please let me know.
i know ...... i am a cheapskate :imsorry:

Thanks Tinus for this generousness offer; but I rather keep on the look out for a used set .....

Just imagine I accidentally stuff up your wheels :surprised:

otherwise ...... are you saying the 285s are not working on an 4.5 auto ?

Same offer from me.

Different size, but also 33" diameter and much cheaper than Tinus's to replace.
Mag ons ons kenniskry met lekkerkry aanhoukry.

Big thank you to you as well Peter ..... but I would feel equally bad irrespective of price or make...

25 years ago my (ex) boss was so kind and borrowed me his wife's CAR... and then it happened

Hay its not that bad! I have 285's on my green 4.5 auto, yes it is slightly slower on pull off but otherwise it was fine

Hi Ian
thanks for your input.
I think Tunis was more referring to the possibility that the 4.5 auto might tend to hunt gears when using 285s . (not so much about the slower pull off).
What is your experience ? How does yours behave when cruising at 100-120 km/h ?

Please read carefully, he is looking for 285/70/16 (31,7") tyres not 286/75/16 (32,8")

I dont see how this size could have any negative effect

The preferred size would be 285/70/16 (32s)..... however those once seem to be rather scares.
That is why I would alternatively also look for 285 / 75 / 16.... the more common size.

hence I wrote

"I am looking for a set of old used up tyres of the size 285 / 70 / 16 or alternatively 285 / 75 / 16"

:salute:
