Re: Bio Diesel.... The Iron Maiden is going Green !!!
Well I am overly excited to post my findings over a mere 25km journey. Finally I got around to filling up with bio-diesel. Poured 125 liter with approximately 7-10L garrage diesel remaining in the tank.
Within a few minutes there was a big puff of smoke and an old chippie smell in the air which then quickly turned to lekker slap chippie smell. After a few kilometers I definitely noticed the engine got quieter. The size 13 socket in the sump got reduced to about a size 8. In the gq engine noise is quite noticeable, I always only heard engine but now I actually hear my exhaust, which is very nice.
It is definitely way way quicker (because who cares about fuel consumption at R9/L )
Then driving my normal everyday route home on the highway I usually drive 120km/h and EGT’s will sit at about 430 deg. Today I drove around 125 and EGT’s was comfortably at 390 deg. Haven’t been under 400 at that speed since before I put a 35” Spare and awning on the roof.
It does sound to good to be true, I might just be to overly exited but I do hope it works out well.

Re: Bio Diesel.... The Iron Maiden is going Green !!!
Lekker man, I am super happy that it seems to be working for you.
Ok.... so, some more feedback on how I have found the Bio Diesel in my Iron Maiden so far...
1) First start in the morning in current cold weather temps ( 8-12degC ).... same as previous report.
2) There is definitely less ( Iron Maiden style ) black smoke on fast pull-aways and flat foot acceleration.
3) There is in my opinion a slightly better power delivery.
4) On a long uphill, and general driving, further testing will be needed for EGT temp comparison, but does seem a little lower
5) Fuel consumption, I have been driving it hard and not really worrying about that currently. but it seems to be pretty much the same.
6) I'm still quite enjoying the smell.....hahaha.
I do think that in the winter months, a bio mix of say 15L Garage diesel to 75L Bio is a good idea, purely to lower the gel point of the bio diesel out is a good idea, but.... I ordered another 75L last week, and will throw that in without blending any garage diesel in purely to see if there is any difference. I want to try get an accurate feel on how this all works out.
Tijmen, thanks for your feedback, lets see what the other guys say when they give it a try.

Re: Bio Diesel.... The Iron Maiden is going Green !!!
some more feedback....
I am currently running on a mix 2/3 Garage fuel 1/3 Bio Diesel. This will change with the next fill-up in favor of a higher content of Bio Diesel...... to the point were it should be 100% Bio-Diesel.
there are only two points which I noticed so far.
1) As per Tijmen..... "The size 13 socket in the sump got reduced to about a size 8"
2) The smell went from unbearable to having dinner in my favorite Chinese restaurant.

Re: Bio Diesel.... The Iron Maiden is going Green !!!
So I ordered 125L of this chippie oil stuff, to be delivered today at the Turbonater's house.
Unfortunately as everything else in the good old SA the price has gone up R10L still R5,75 cheaper than the garage
Now contemplating if I should fill up with the chippie stuff or Garage diesel for my trip to the Kruger commencing this Saturday, taking into consideration I have just gotten my Trol back from Michael with the diesel pump being calibrated and the injectors re conned.
Also not taking into consideration, I dont know if the lions have a preference for vehicles smelling like the corner cafe.....
Would be interesting to check consumption and power on a long trip as so far everybody here has only done the normal day to day drive.

Re: Bio Diesel.... The Iron Maiden is going Green !!!
Personally I would chuck it in for the trip up.... great way to lube up a newly reconned pump and injectors. Then fill up with normal on the way back to see if there is a difference. It will be a great way to test it out too

Re: Bio Diesel.... The Iron Maiden is going Green !!!
Have any of you guys found that the next fuel filter change came up very quickly after going over to BIO? When I have not used cooking oil for a long time, and then go back, I find the filter picks up all kinds of stuff that normal diesel allows to stay behind. Algae being the biggest culprit.
