Re: Recovery points

My understanding is that the Nissan recovery point is a hook.Tinus lotz wrote: ↑25 Apr 2018 11:55Paul send pics or come borrow mine nissan one is the way to go...
So a single recovery is one thing, bit non-stop towing in 4x4 conditions would not work, unless one can prevent the strap from unhooking?
Secondly, why (or under what circumstances) would the hook be more suitable than the aftermarket points made by Piet?

Re: Recovery points
Dankie Peter. Re: Recovery points
Alex, you are correct, the standard point is a hook. But, it has a plate on which prevents the rope from un-hooking. Rolf's car had a standard recovery hook, and you know how far we towed that.
To my mind, a well-designed hook is better as it does not require a shackle, thus fewer points of failure. But, this only applies if the hook is of such design and manufacture that it won't damage the rope.
But I don't have the equipment to make beautiful hooks like that, which is why I make plates with holes in them.
Paul, I do still make recovery points, but only for the front and I don't have a product suitable for the 4.8's. Sorry.

Re: Recovery points
Ian, thank you, circumstances did not allow a detour on Monday. I could have used a cold one though.
