4.8 rough idle and stalling

Post by graham1 »

Hi guys,

Since last friday my patrol is having a rough idle, and/or stalling at idle. Ive had a brief google of the issue but it seems theres loads of different suggestions as to what it could be.

Could it possibly be a battery on its way out? The reason I ask is a couple weeks back I saw that the battery has leaked quite alot of fluid, staining everything underneath it white. Could the bad idle be as a result of this maybe? It still starts perfectly though, no sluggish swinging etc.

Other than this, any ideas? Im getting a foot cramp having to heal and toe at the traffic lights!

Mine did that a few years back & it was the MAF that was the issue.

I had no battery symptoms at all.

Ok, thanks JP.

Did you need to replace it then? Or did it just need a clean?

What about fuel pressure problems ? Check the filter under the car first?

I did think about the fuel filter, but other than idling it seems to perform very well still, pulls strong etc, and no stuttering. Its just at idle.

Interesting JP, mine has just recently clocked over 230 000kms

Tinus sorted this in 1 second of the bonnet opening - one of the wires that goes to my MAF has a connector on it that you can interchange with the connector on the chip that’s in it, but not being used. The connector was loose so the cable wasn’t connected.
Plugged it back, crimped with the leather man, and it’s going like a rocket again!

Thanks Tinus :blonde:
