4.8 Alternator upgrade.
Has anyone upgraded their 4.8's alternator?
I believe that the factory unit is a 70amp?? Can anyone confirm please...
I really think 70amps is very weak, I've had way higher output units on mk1 golfs in the past.
Any idea on where to get replacement units, part numbers & prices??

Re: 4.8 Alternator upgrade.
Nope - the Hitachi LR1110-718 as fitted to the TB48 is 110A. The ZD30 has an 90A and I think the old RD28's had a 70A alternator

Errol, is daar nie 'n grooter opsie as 110A nie?

Re: 4.8 Alternator upgrade.
Somewhere I saw a post by someone who upgraded to AC DELCO 120 amp successfully. I am in PE and happened to notice several AC Delco alternatures on display at Willards Battery outlet in PE. Try Willards.

Re: 4.8 Alternator upgrade.
I have seen 120A upgrades on the Aussie forum, so to hear there may be something local is great!

Re: 4.8 Alternator upgrade.
I've gone to a 140A Delco Remy, and someone else went to an even more potent Delco Remy after my upgrade...

Re: 4.8 Alternator upgrade.
Hi Wilkie,
Do you know where I can source a similar aftermarket alternator for the 4.5 petrol?
Thanks

Re: 4.8 Alternator upgrade.
JP, what do you want to run with such a big alternator? TV's and all sorts of monitoring devices?.....haha
I have a 90 or 100 Amp aftermarket alternator in the Iron Maiden, and never been short of power. If yours as a standard has a 110 Amp unit, then I'm sure that is more than sufficient to run everything and more in your 4.8.
The TD42 only has a 60 Amp Hitachi alternator..... so I figured that was a little too small, hence the upgrade to 90 or 100Amp
