Intermittent water trap warning light 2000 Patrol

Post by EFH »

Morning all, I seem to have an intermittent error on my 2000 Patrol's water trap warning light, seems that it is not making proper contact. It randomly flickers, switching on and off. I have drained the trap and only diesel comes out. Is it a replaceable part or maybe a fried connector somewhere? Anyone have a similar issue?

Maybe you pumped in some dodgy diesel, I would replace the filter first before you go looking for other things, from memory they are about R280

Micheal gave me some advice the other day when I was at his place. Apparently there is an "O" ring that may be missing on the filter housing. If this is a reason for your flickering light, I honestly have no clue, but this "O" ring would fit between the top of the filter that screws into the housing and the housing itself. I assume, as i haven't done mine yet, that this "O"ring fits into the housing than onto the filter. This "O" ring is not the big one on the filter itself that you spread a bit of oil onto when fitting a new filter.

Maybe its missing and is causing something to cause something to cause something to flicker..... just my stupid 2 cents worth

Oom, have a look at the bottom of your diesel filter. There is a thingy screwed onto the bottom of the filter. That thingy has a thin wire that has a connector on that clips into the wiring harness that tells the little liggie on your dash that tells you that you have poeffie in your filter. It's probably the most advanced electronics on a TD42 motor like ours......hahahaha

There is a float inside the filter that screws off and can be moved between filters when there is water it floats and switch makes contact ...check your filter for water then unplug and then see if problem is still there ...if is gone have alook at switch or replace

Yah, that bottle thingy is there. I sometimes drain it for the heck of it .. BUT I have never seen a 'liggie' OR a wire coming from that botteltjie thingy
