Jorrie,

So after the changes, the Patrol went OK-ish, but not what one would expect after all the changes. So I took it in for a Dyno-tune, and these are the figures: before vs after in NM

RPM - BEFORE - AFTER
1500 - 192.3 - 306.3 NM
2000 - 293.2 - 362.0 NM
2500 - 277.0 - 342.7 NM
3000 - 245.8 - 300.3 NM
3500 - 235.0 - 267.7 NM
4000 - 185.3 - 205.8 NM

I took it to Kungwini on Sunday, and especially in slow driving and climbing, the improvement is stunning. I normally drive it at 100 kph on tar (I don't go faster with clients driving a 4x4 the first time following me), that being about 2700 rpm and I am very happy with the open road performance at that speed.

I also had a MADMAN monitoring system fitted while I was having the Dyno-tune done, something I've wanted to fit to my Terrano, and later to the Patrol for a very long time now.

Hi Tinus,

Yes, TNT in Germiston fitted a 76mm pipe from the Turbo, all the way out the back. Brilliant job done by them for R3500...

"So after the changes, the Patrol went OK-ish"

After a safari to Namibia last Jan/Feb the turbo's bearings were a bit noisy at times, so I took it in for some maintenance and some preventative maintenance. This is what I had done:

Turbo refurbishment
Alternator overall
New Injectors
New Glow plugs
76mm Exhaust
Larger front mount Cirrus intercooler
Front auto-locker

After all these changes, it was heavy on fuel and really did not perform like it did before. I could feel the boost was down a bit too, so to solve all these problems I had it dyno tuned and at the same time fitted a MADMAN.

The only REALLY expensive bits were LABOUR, INJECTORS, GLOW PLUGS and the MADMAN.

One can't take a chance and have vehicle trouble when taking customers on a Safari somewhere north of our borders...
Chris from Cirrrus did not charge for the bigger intercooler kit, as he used my vehicle as his "testbed" to develop the kit for the Y61 3.0 TDi. I saved myself about R12K there!
