Patrol 4.8 spark plugs

Post by DanieG »

The time had come for my first service of the Patrol. I understand that it is a major mission to replace the spark plugs, apparantly half the intake manifold has to be removed. If I replace the plugs, I might as well replace them with something which is going to last longer than the normal plugs. I have read that a good replacement is PLFR5A-11 from NGK. In the spark plug manuals they say that it is suitable for the 4 liter Navara, but nothing about the Patrol. So, does the Navara and the Patrol use the same spark plug?

I do not know if they use the same plugs.

Service manual states plugs every 30 000km if I remembered correctly. I changed mine with the specified NGK plugs. It not such a heavy job. I did it in 4hrs and that was taking my time fiddling with everything else as well.
30000km is a long time. Reverts to once a year for most. :mytwocents:

If my memory serves me right the platinum plugs is rated fro 90k km and my service book states replace at 90k, unfortunately some dealers / service agents replace them with normal plugs that do not last as long. I found normal plugs,

The plug number is correct and you need to split the manifold to replace.

Yes, for the TB48 use NGK PLFR5A-11 (Platinum = more $$$), or you can use the cheaper LFR5A-11.
