Heater / climate control

Post by DanieG »

When driving on a trip, I find that the heater comes on for no reason, especially after stopping for a while, but also simply while driving. After a while it goes off (or at least partially), to come on again from time to time. It makes no difference if the climate control is switched to its coldest. It is extremely annoying, but I do not know who on earth will be able to find the fault.

Danie,
You have to confirm this is the case.
If you have warm air from the engine bay area leaking through to the air collector area ( the ducting area just before your windscreen) it would mean you will be getting allot of warm air blowing into the car which could feel to you like the heating coming on.
A good test would be to by-pass the warm water to the heater and see if you still experience a similar effect.
That would 100% proof if it is the heating control acting up or just a matter of warm air leaking in.
Hope this is of some help.
Regards,
Riaan

Hallo Riaan

In the Patrol, the heater matrix is always on, and the air reaching the interior is controlled by a series of solenoid-activated flaps/valves.

Sounds to me like one of these is misbehaving.
Mag ons ons kenniskry met lekkerkry aanhoukry.

Is there not a fuse for the air system that can be pulled?

To cut power to the flaps to see if this stops the actuation?

My knowledge is quite limited. It seems as if a thin vacuum pipe leads to what I assume can be a heater valve or something in front of the fire wall.
