For me it's not even about all the stuff you added on, its about being a legend.
I saw a vid on Youtube about a 1969 Datsun Fairlazy z432, Its basicly a 240zx with the 1st ever GTR (hakosuka)
drive train. only a small amount was ever built, can't remember exactly how many.
That thing sold for a MAD price simply cuz it is what it is, Legend and Hard to get.

Here is a link to another one that went on sale for 100,000 USD.
https://thegarage.jalopnik.com/this-gor ... 1685060510

So my view is this basicly, Yes its easier to find a Shorty Y60 than this above mentioned Fairlady but, you must keep in mind, it still is one of a kind and an absolute Legend. 100,000usd is like 1.1 - 1.4 mill back in 2010 when it was sold so
200K(ZAR) for this Patrol seems fair to me tbh, Even without mods.

Classics are becoming more and more valuable.

However the more original the higher the value to the point where a barn find often outvalues a beautifully restored example.

The mods unfortunately detract from the value on a classic. I would be marketing this vehicle as something that is ridiculously capable rather than classic.

I agree its worth it, if not then you either dont have the money and feel as of you can mitigate it with all sort of baseless opinions. Or you are not a true patrol fanatic. This is the holy grail of Patrols.

Take a piece of paper and make a list of your Ultimate Patrol. And i am not talking about seat covers and mickey mouse items to lengthen your list, real hardcore offraod mods. Mine would be
1. a good base GQ to start with (how many of those are there in SA and how many SWB are there)
2. Silvertop diesel in good condition, matching numbers/original not a swap. This is what most collectors are concerned about in terms of original value
3. Some mods to make the motor breathe better like snorkel, branches and freeflow on a diesel (how many people ever said you cant branch and tube a diesel)but not a turbo
Then you go on......

I would have done the same as the patrol for sale and the remarks that extras depreciate by 50% have a look at the Rand to Dollar rate soon the difflocks alone will be 100K.

Baseless opinions? Sorry, I don't agree.

Here:
http://patrol4x4.co.za/viewtopic.php?f=65&t=7487
is a car half the age, with a better engine (again, just my opinion), and quite probably more extras (including lockers in both axles), that is half the age in years, and who knows how much newer in usage, for the same price...

We have seen LWB GQ's with double ARB lockers selling for under R60k on this forum.

Yes, I would dearly love a shorty. But I don't think it is worth nearly four times what the equivalent LWB is.

But, as you say, this is just an opinion. However, I don't agree that it is baseless.

Thank you all for the effort but I have taken a position back home and will use the Shorty as my daily driver.

I will still sell the 95 GQ in order to make space for the GQ Mr. Conan mentions above.

Mr. Conan if a TD42 GQ comes up for 60 with dual ARB lockers I will take it.

I have a 4.8GRX as well and again in your opinion the 4.8 is better but I get more than double the range on the same amount of fuel so in my opinion for everyday use the Shorty is better any day. Keep in mind the mechanicals are the same except for the thirsty motor.

I must be honest I did not expect ao much criticism on this forum. Almost made me feel like I was on the Land Cruiser forum.

This is not criticism, but views.
And not baseless either.
All well intended to all concerned.

If you believe you can sell it for R200k, I for one would be delighted at being proven wrong, given that I own a Shortie myself. So please don’t take the posts made as negative or as criticism.

I really think the views that have been expressed in this thread were never intended as negative criticism.

But obviously feathers have been ruffled.

We all know this is not in the spirit of this forum.

I known that personally I have spent way more than the asking price of this vehicle on many of my projects & daily drives over the years.

One thing that I was waiting to see was detailed pics of the vehicle.

Who knows?? It may be the most pristine example ever, with a nice list of extras to boot...

Also worth mentioning is that any sale is negotiable & as a seller you can always come down, but never go back up.

I suppose opinions could have been gentler & the ad could have been more discriptive ie. Pics.

I would still like to see the vehicle.

I apologise if you saw my post as a personal attack. It was not meant to be.

As I stated, it is just my opinion.

As we live in free-market countries, you are welcome to charge any amount you like for whatever you are selling. If you can find somebody who wants it at your price, it will sell.
