Michael, did you had to adjust the fuel pump at all with the "bolt on" conversion, ie add more fuel/adjust fuel screw?
Rudolph, ja ek draai hom so 1/4 draai in.

Chaps,

As promised, a bit more feed back (on EGTs and performance).

Took a drive in cool rainy conditions, EGT lekker low (460) at 120km/h.

Yesterday drove 70km trip, late afternoon (just above 20 C outside, very slight cross wind - almost ideal conditions).
I settled on 125km/h on the tar, air-con on. The car kept it's speed beautifully, with always some room to spare under the throttle.
EGT:
Max 578
Min while cruising 450ish
I passed 550 on 6 occasions, 3x while accelerating after a turn-off, 3x going up an incline.
Average about 520

I do not know much about EGT as I am new to diesel and mad man's but mine does not go that high, even when I am pushing it up a long low hill I never get above 500, normal cruising at about 110km/h (yes I drive like a granny  ) I am sitting at about 260 to 320????

The temp reading will depend on where the probe is positioned. On mine I have a probe before the turbo and also after the turbo, and there can be 100 deg C temp difference between the 2 probes that are maybe a meter apart. The turbo cools the EGT dramatically !!!

My EGT probe, pre-turbo is positioned where all 6 (I have branches on my Patrol and not a manifold) pipes join, so I'm getting reading from all at once, whereas on a manifold the probe may be positioned closer to No 5 and 6 exhaust outlet. This too will cause different readings between different setups. A little guesswork has to come into play now, as right at the exhaust port at the head, you don't really want the temps to hit 700 deg C, as in my opinion, you are hitting too close to melting point ( yeah melting point on the pistons is a lot higher, but it's just my brain saying that that is high enough). However bear in mind that the oil squirters under the pistons are there to cool the piston down to reasonable temps to prevent "melting" pistons. So again on mine I have the EGT set to scream at me if I go over 630 deg C. Even at 630 it is still way below critical, but I know That I can push and hold it there for a few minutes going up a long steep hill if need be and not cause any damage. BUT THIS IS ON MY PATROL. Check where your probe is positioned, make adjustments to your calculations to ensure that you are not going over the 630 - 650 deg C range at the exhaust port on the head and you will be fine. If your Patrol doesn't have oil squirters then I would reduce that top temp down to 550 MAX.

That my friend is the question of questions.... Only easy way is to drop the sump and look up the bores. Alternatively, If you know that the motor was worked on then see if you can get into contact with the person and ask.

This is what you would need to be looking for
