Past that stage I'm afraid. Just brought it back as salvage but its stored at SMD's depot in Polokwane. It was Hollard but I had 4x4 cover so they covered it in full! But then I wasn't 'off road' at the time! Which may have helped! Through the main intake - took a while to dry the filter out!

Ps: what insurance company are you affiliated to,... and do they cover such an ordeal as a drowning?

Ok so at least this story has a happy ending as David took delivery of his all newly "modified" Patrol.
There was loads of things to do and change and working on a drowned vehicle means you have to check way more stuff than usual.
Firstly I had to get the engine working again and more importantly it needed to be turbo charged.
The engine had a bent conrod from the water it inhaled and unfortunately the wear on the sleves were just too much (5/100 of a mm) and had to be resleeved.
When stripping the engine I drained very clean anti freeze and this is what an engine lookes like that has never driven without antifreeze on 260,000km+
I was really amazed and it was a pleasure working on such an engine.
This is what the conrod looked like, also note how the piston cracked form the extreme pressure!
The starter did not look any better and had to be reconditioned
Just look at this beautiful block after the new sleeves have been inserted, honed and the block have been skimmed!
I had to also drain the diesel filter 3 times from all the water in the fuel tanks, and all the drivetrain oils had to be drained and refilled after was all looking very much like condensed milk..... Just look at this muk

Getting the engine bay clean and neat was quite a task, but it is done.
I build in a front mount cooler (not easy), but way worth it!!
