1500km later

Post by Fezza »

Hi

I bought a Patrol pick up TD4.2 earlier this year. it is a 2008 model with 270 000km on clock.

I was happy at first with the bakkie. Unfortunatly a burst radiator led to overheating and it was discovered that the oil cooler was badly rusted and was loosing water fast.
After a patch up work at my local mechanic ( he tried his best but not a Patrol expert) I decided to load the bakkie on a truck and take it to Michael (Sojo Automotaive).

Michael discovered that the engine is sicker than I thought and he did a engine rebuild. Now after 1500km driving with the rebuild engine the confidence in my bakkie is coming back.

Leasons learnt:
- Don't be a over eager buyer - take the bakkie for a good check before purchase.
- It is worth while taking the patrol to a specialist like Michael.
- This patrol community is a good one.
- a Madman is your friend.

Thanks to the following people that helped in some way with the repair:
- Gustav Roux
- Tinus : sourcing the radiator and linking me with the rest of the experts.
- David Volschenk for the second hand oil cooler.
- Marinus Potgieter
- Michael Steyn for good and honest work on the engine.

Regards
Ferreira
