Diff lock not engaging
Hi guys,
I only remembered now that I had difflock issues during our last Botswana trip.
When I flicked the difflock switch the difflock light and abs lights would flash. From what I remember, the difflock light needs to burn solid hey? And what should the abs light do?
I'll start with the vacuum lines, but the abs light flashing has me confused.

Re: Diff lock not engaging
Yip, I'm busy trawling through all of them now
I can't seem to find anything about the abs light yet though, maybe I need more coffee. :)

Re: Diff lock not engaging
ABS is disabled the moment the diff-lock switch is turned on, and the ABS light will start flashing.
Thus, the ABS light is doing what it should.

Aha, I thought that might be the case, but wasnt sure. Thanks Peter!
At least I can now just focus on the difflock itself then.

Re: Diff lock not engaging
Also if the diff lock is engaged , you should hear a warning chime if you go over 25km/h

Re: Diff lock not engaging
Hi Graham
a easy way to test the difflock and to see if its working....jack the rear of your Patrol and with the car in neutral start the engine
change the two vacuum pipes , (the pipe on the rear should have constant vacuum) around on the selonoid for the diff lock and with the handbrake off turn any one of the rear wheels slowly and it should engage the diff lock and both wheels should turn together
if it doesn't engage then your problem might be in the diff

Re: Diff lock not engaging
Ok, I climbed under it today. I found one of the rubber pipes had come off the rigid pipe, just above the rear axle. Reconnected it, went for a test drive, but still no lock.
I then jacked the one wheel up to test as per Wilkies advice. put in neutral and started it. Hand brake off, but the jacked up wheel was spinning, even though it's in neutral? I don't get this one? Anyway, I gently braked to stop the wheel and switched off and abandoned this one as it felt a bit unsafe.
I then disconnected the lines at the solenoid as well as at the diff and used a hand pump on them to check if they're blocked, both pipes seem clear.
I then swopped the pipes around at the solenoid, started, and within half a metre the diff was locked.
So the diff itself is fine, but now how do I trouble shoot?
