Would be interresting to know... not sure what diff the 4.8 use in the rear? I think the 4.8 auto also use an h233 rear diff. But I'm not sure..
(Manual 4.8 got an h260 rear diff, afaik)
Lockrite only makes a locker for the h233 diff, not one available for the h260...

But having an autolocker on the rear diff, would mean that it engages all the time. even when driving two wheel drive on bitumen.
Some people don't like this... and find it annoying.

I have never driven a vehicle with an auto locker installed so cant say from experience. I think an autolocker in the front is less "intrusive".

(Apparently) There is a compliance plate on the vehicle which specifies which diffs are installed. (I have not been able to locate this plate on either one of my patrols... so not sure where it is in the vehicle  )

Example:

FS5R50B HG39:
HG - This indicates the rear differential fitted. HG indicates a H233B rear diff, with a 233mm crownwheel.
39 - This indicates the diff ratio fitted at the factory. This number is rounded to 2 decimal places so is not completely accurate. In this case it is a 3.900 diff ratio.

FS5R50B HH41:
HH - This indicates the rear differential fitted. HH indicates a H260 rear diff, the major difference is that it is a 260mm crownwheel and a different rear housing to accommodate it.
41 - Indicates the diff ratio fitted at the factory. This number is rounded to 2 decimal places so is not completely accurate. In this case it is a 4.111 diff ratio.

The solenoid normally just gets stuck due to rust or dirt. If that's the case, it can be dismantled and repaired, or sometimes even gotten operational without dismantling it.

As for the rear diff itself, find out exactly what's wrong before rushing around and buying parts.

I am out the country again at the moment. I am seeing if I can get my dad to take it in. I only have 2 weeks at home and don't want to spend all that time waiting for parts instead of dicing snotkops at the robots.

Its seems I broke it. The diagnosis is that the thread on the end of the diff lock actuator broke off with the nut. This connects the vacuum actuator to a fork that runs on a ring and actuates the lock. As the actuator arm broke the difflock would not disengage. The indicator sensor is on the actautor so the patrol thought it had dissengaged but the fork was not attached and engaged.

I originally posted that when reversing up my drive way it did not feel like the difflock was engaged... well it looks like in reverse the fork pops out and disengages, and re-engages in forward.

So I have no rear diffloc... price from nissan for everything is 22K :surprised: So I need to source some second hand parts. Or upgrade.

I forgot to mention that all the damaged pieces can be replaced by an arb air locker or an e-locker.

If it is only the actuator stem tht is broken, and presuming you are willing to wait a little while, send me the broken bits, and I will turn you up a new one?
