Removed the whole egr system. Blanked the exhaust manifold, blanked intake, removed the valve, pipe around back and all brackets. Cable tied plug out the way.

I got the parts from Alert engine spares except the head gasket, and a few odd seals where I had to get from Nissan. The invoices are in the garage, I can give a price indication later. The glow plugs were not expensive.

I have not done injectors, I want to but not right now. Had them tested and spray patterns are not perfect but still ok.

Morning Dale

When you unpluged and removed the egr valve did it not triger a engine light or something?

I was planning to also remove that whole egr system when i put my engine back together, just wonderd if that plug on the valve thats removed would cause the engine light to come on.

My egr was blocked of at the intake when i bought it but shortly there after the flex pipe from the exhaust manifold to the valve broke of. I drove home to Rustenburg from Bloemfontein with the vehicle loaded pulling a trailer with my racing car on. Luckely it had a Madman fitted so i just kept the egts from going over 500° some places i had to crawl on at 20 km/h, was a mess. When i got home i took of thet pipe, cut two pates and blanked of the holes at the manifold and valve.

Worked well untill it broke down with an other problem about 6 monthes later and it's actually still standing a year later. A rather minor problem lead me to see that the whole engine is actually a huge mess. I'll do a post on that nightmare

Sounds familiar.

No, I had/have no light. Did expect one but have nothing. Run without the system for about 25k km's no problem.

It's actually not such a bad motor. The bottom end is really solid. Just the silly head issues!! Good luck putting it back together.

Thanks Dale.

Its good to know about the light.

I agree with you, besides the egr problems i think that there are lots of people working on them that shouldn't even work on bicycles.

Morning All,
Motor now nicely run in. Just got back from holiday... first in a long time where I made it home without issue!! >1500km now done and she pulls great. Actually had to remind myself not to tow in 5th a few times!!

Towing a 1.2t offroad trailer down to Ponta Malangane via Ithala (Hilly) and back gave me around 14 l/100.

On a side note, she really needs a bigger intercooler, you can feel how much better she performs with lower outside temperatures over the heat of the day temperatures.

Cheers,
Dale

Good to hear all is well Dale.
I can get a upgraded cooler kit for around R5,200 which is WAY better than the one you have now.
