I may make it after all, returned earlier from Lagos. It now all depends on what the wife has planned for tomorrow....iandvl wrote:I will make sure there is coffee. See all Saturday.

Re: Radio Programming Day 15 July at Base 4
A final note on this:
Those that were there will be familiar with the fact that I had to do some extra-special haxory to get the Bosvarks programmed. Basically, with the end-user software, one cannot easily change the frequency of the channels. I had to save a default configuration, edit it with a hex editor, and re-upload to the radio to get the stuff to work. One can also not set the output power with the end-user software, which means the user needs to do this manually, after powering on.
I've done significant digging into the Bosvark radio file format, and I think we're eventually in luck. I think we may be able to program them so that they are permanently in the correct "power" mode. I do, however, need on to test with, but I'm probably not going to have a chance to do this before River Trip. We'll make another session at the next club outing.
Once again, thanks. Was epic, and good to see everyone again.

Re: Radio Programming Day 15 July at Base 4
What, or why does a bosvark needs to be programmed?
Mine is running on standard settings, does it mean that mine wont communicate with the "programmed" bosvarks?
What is the benefit of this?
Sorry, maybe a dumb question, but just had to ask...

Technically, the BosVark does not need to be programmed - if everyone is using BosVarke.SJC wrote:What, or why does a bosvark needs to be programmed?

The issue cropped up with River Trip last year. Several guys had radios programmed by Jan. Several others didn't. Some people used Zartek - others used Bosvarke or Baofeng. Resulting in lots of confusion, and lots of people not being able to talk to each other. My idea was to program the radios as per Jan's frequencies, and this means that everyone at RT would be able to speak to each other on the same channels.
For what it is worth, the first 9 channels are identical to the factory standard bosvark channels (if I recall correctly).
