Hi Michael
You've almost got it there.
Not quite OME, but were an accessory option from Nissan dealerships.
The bars were made by Tuffex Manufacturing right here in my hometown of PE
I knew someone who worked there and I got to see the factory a few times.
They made Maxibar, Excalibur and a few other brands.
Looks like they've dropped the bar manufacturing and focused on exhaust systems lately & they've got a facility in CT now as well.
a.k.a. Datsun Dustin

Wie het gaan toer in die Weste?

Post by Ds J »

Maybe someone can confirm this?
Correct.

They came out Standard (OEM) on the first batch of Patrol Pickups (early 2007 models).

Late 2007 models then sported all ONCA bars, front, rear, rollbar, sliders,.. on the "SAFARI" pack, offered Standard by Nissan, which also included the double skin rear Bak. My Pickup is a Safari pack example.

Patrol spotting with a difference this time...

I was in Maseru for work on Monday. Etienne, a mate of mine with a very bad case of "FOMO"1, decided he'd never been in Maseru before, and wanted to see the place, so he went down with me. Stayed over in Ladybrand on Sunday evening. On Monday morning, "dou-voor-dag", we crossed into Lesotho at Maseru Bridge. It was 2 degrees in Ladybrand when we left, but by the time we reached the border, this had dropped down to -5.....  That is beside the point.

I drove to where I was working, gave Etienne the keys, and he took my truck for the day to explore Maseru and its surrounds whilst I did my project.

Sometime around lunch, I got a call from a Lesotho number. A very excited masotho guy mentioned "bearded man", Patrol, my number plate and similar. I got a bit of a fright - thinking my mate had perhaps had an accident or something, but the next moment they guy was telling me that he had the exact same vehicle. He'd bought it after an accident, and was trying to get it fixed. He'd got everything sorted, but was trying to sort out the front axel.

Discussing the incident with Etienne over a Maluti after work, he said the guy had followed him for about 15km before eventually being able to chat with him when he stopped for lunch. He said the guy was very apologetic and so on, but appeared to be quite "desperate" to get hold of me.

In any case, I'll track down a front diff for him, and get it to Bloemfontein. He can collect if from there.

1: Fear Of Missing Out :rolling:

PS: we checked out of Lesotho at Peka Bridge border post yesterday morning. It was absolutely amazingly quiet. At 09h30, when we crossed back into ZA, we were the only people at the border post apart from immigration and customs officials. Absolutely amazing.

Ja and you can see that those bumpers were designed to fit a patrol without wheel flares, hence the narrower width...
